50 Ways To Keep Your Lover
79
In honor of my 50th hub I decided to do a spin on one of my favorite songs. Paul Simon sang about 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover. I'm here to share 50 Ways to Keep Your Lover. Some of you might not be familiar with this classic hit so feel free to watch the video beforehand.
Whether you are dating or married I hope some of my ideas will be useful. I'm not an expert in relationships, but you can say that I've been there and done that. In one way or another we've all had relationship experiences, whether good or bad, we live and learn. So here goes.....
1. Give a gift just because. No need for a special occasion.
2. Alternate days for the TV remote. You might learn something intriguing and interesting!
3. Fire up the grill, learn how to cook. Don't expect to get served unless you serve others.
4. Connect by holding hands. How long has it been since you've done that?
5. Don't slip out the back Jack if an issue arises....confront the problem and then decide if you are going to make a run for it. Always have an escape plan!
6. Date night. It doesn't have to be extravagant. Whether at home or somewhere else it is what it is. No, I'm not going to plan it for you also!
7. Privacy. Give each other space. CLAUSTROPHOBIA in a relationship is taboo. Breathe!
8. Discuss much. Communication is a MUST. Did you follow that? Communication is a MUST.
9. Make plans as a team. Don't rely on one person to be the entertainer...which is why it's called teamwork!
10. Laugh and laugh some more, then laugh again. Laugh until your belly hurts.
11. Don't be coy (shy) tell your mate what you want. Contrary to what you might have heard, mind-readers are far and few between.
12. Hold the door open. Pull out the chair. Yes, common courtesy still exists.
13. Take a walk and stop to smell the roses or apple blossoms!
14. Don't go to bed angry, get your point across and don't give in until the other sees it your way.
15. LISTEN and HEAR I repeat LISTEN AND HEAR.
16. Don't always expect to fix everything, sometimes you just need to (see #15)
17. Give a shoulder massage! You never know when you are going to need them so show some love!
18. It's not imperative to always speak when alone, just enjoy the moment.
19. SPEAK more!!!
20. Ask about their day. Their tomorrows. Their yesterdays.
21. Try not to share bodily noises unless absolutely necessary, even then still try not to.
22. Take care of your health. It's not all about you, think of your loved ones! No one is invincible.
23. Always, I repeat ALWAYS have chocolate on hand in case ANY emergency should emerge.
24. Hop on the bus and take a road trip to anywhere!
25. Give each other the key to your hearts.
26. Take random pictures of each other to laugh at later.
27. Roll out the red carpet, but never be a doormat.
28. Be spontaneous, but never combust!
29. Call or text just to say thinking of you, isn't that reason enough?
30. The best gifts are from the heart. So simple yet mean the most.
31. NEVER ASSUME! Do I have to tell you what happens... U make an ASS of ME (meaning U)
32. NEVER say, "You look fine" with a quizzical expression....UH OH! Watch your back!
33. SMILE often :)
34. Appreciate....one more time....A-P-P-R-E-C-I-A-T-E!
35. psssst....size does matter.
36. Never intentionally embarrass or humiliate your significant other (continued w/ #37)
37. Do unto others as others do unto you.
38. Honesty is the best policy. There are NO ifs, ends or buts. None.
39. Just be yourself. Don't pretend to be someone you aren't just to impress. It NEVER works.
40. Don't just LOOK, see within the heart.
41. Be supportive but don't smother unless one of you is on fire!
42. If you don't love yourself, you can't love someone else.
43. Dance! Who cares if you can't, do it anyway! In the kitchen, backyard, on the counter-top...just do it!
44. Walk side by side ... never behind or ahead.
45. THINK before you SPEAK. Trust me, you'll thank me for this one!
46. Share a hot fudge sundae, even if it's a weekday!
47. If you don't like being judged than don't judge others. Karma!
48. You can't change anyone but yourself.
49. Say ONE nice thing to each other per day. It can be done.
50. Lastly, remind each other that you are together for a reason. If you don't have a reason watch video below.
Disclaimer: These suggestions are just my opinions. I have practiced them and continue to practice some. I have lived and learned. From here on out YOU are on your own. I will not be held responsible for anyone's actions UNLESS they are positive ones! :)
Here's to another 50 ways to keep your lover....please feel free to add your suggestions in the comment section below, I'd appreciate it if you share! Sending some sunshine and love your way!
Just in case the above 50 don't work out for you....

Here's an idea! Explore new cities, states, countries, etc. together. Spend some time in an area where you know no one. It will show how much fun you can have together!
Sunshine...I know the song WELL.....and in my time, I've used every single way to leave a loser.....I mean, lover.
Well....yeah....I got a "GOOD ONE" at long last. It's those damned slimy FROGS on the way to Prince Charming that are soooooooo annoying!
Congrats on 50 hubs.....and you have done a great 50th hub.....I like all 50 ways you listed but favorites would be....Roll out the red carpet, but never be a doormat and Walk side by side ... never behind or ahead. Thanks for including that great song. A winning hub that I gladly vote Up.....Interesting......Awesome......Beautiful.....Useful and Funny....great job Sunshine

Cogerson....That's what I like...a guy who believes in EQUALITY!! Your wife loves you to pieces...no doubt!
Ah sunshine I absolutely loved it and it all is soo true, and unfortunately I do remember that song very well, (I was a small child though) hehe, but I think this is very useful information especially for the younger couples, things are so different now. Great hub I loved it voted up and awsome!!:) ge
OUTSTANDING ! That's the best compliment I ever give. I am pretty sure 8,9,15 and 16 have my name on them. How about this one "Fix their favorite meal for no obvious reason". Right down my alley. Loved the hub and voted all.
I NEED CHOCOLATE!!!!
Congratulations on your 50th hub!!! Awesome as usual!
Hi Sunshine, congratulations on 50 hubs, and what a clever hub to celebrate!
Number 45 is a good one to live by, it can save a lot of misunderstanding!
Many thanks for sharing and I look forward to many more of your wonderful hubs.
Thanks for the hub. I am sure my wife will appreciate me reading this. Here is your up!
Sunshine, a big congratulations on your 50th hub, this is a great achievement. I've got a little way to go to get there yet :-)
I truly believe in "Do unto others as others do unto you" because what goes around comes around. What an awesome hub.
Voted up, up, up!
Another great one Sunshine, and congrats on your 50th! I always look forward to your hubs..keep them coming! :D
Great hub sunshine..I remember this song..I use to have it down..lol what a great twist to it and so much more fun..Thank you Sunshine..loved it.
Sunnie
I remember the Paul Simon song well because I always thought it was "neat" (THAT word really dates me, doesn't it?)
Your new 50 ways (for keeping, not losing) are excellent, so I'll recommend them.
Jaye
I hope I'm as awesome as you are when I'm "at 50" (hubs) ;)
What an inspiring hub. I will have to get started on some of these ideas. Sometimes it is easy to put aside the romantic side of life when life is stressful but one should strive for balance and make sure they are taking care of their love life in addition to their occupation. Thank you for inspiring me.
Congrats on your 50th hub Sunshine! Of course, I loved this. Tons of great advice and common sense and inspiration and reminders and wisdom PLUS a dab of sarcastic humor = perfect! Yep, perfect! And Dave gave you an outstanding - what more could you ask for :)
I hope you are enjoying your weekend!
Sharyn

Sometimes after work I stopped by the flower shop to bring something home to my wife. I didn't do it very often because every time I did she would ask me, "What did you do Wrong!"
I later found out ALOT of wives are like that, no wonder they hardly get flowers.
Your list of 50 Ways to keep your lover is wonderful advice! My husband and I have practiced much of this advice for years - might be the reason we celebrated our 50th anniversary this year!
Thanks you Sunshine! and thanks for a great hub!
Vote up awesome! I love it. #25 is very original. thanks for the fan mail.
Great reminders Sunshine. Must try harder!
Congratulations on 50 hubs! I always enjoy your writing. This is great!

Congrats on your 50 hubs! Your list is great....figured I needed some help! First I have to GET a lover, lol!
Happy 50th, Sunshine. And many, many more. How about 50 ways to DUMP your lover? Wait--I wrote the book on that! Hahahahahaha.
Congrats on reaching 50!
Nicely created, Great Hub Thanks to share and congrats to reach on your 50th Hub. Keep it up
Wow. They are all sweet and lovely. Thanks for sharing. I'll bookmark it.
Brilliant! I loved this! I had not caught this one until I spotted it on the feeder screen today. I'll be singing Paul Simon all day now...hehe
I've been married 21 years and was glad to read this refreshing refresher.
Keep these hubs coming!
Thank you for sharing, it's adorable.
Congtars on #50!!! Love this one :)
That's great. You've perfectly got the opposite of the song.
I like these and #47 is a wonderful one, "Don't judge others.". Holding hands is also fantastic! Congratuations on your 50th hub, I am looking forward to #100. :)
Such a great idea, I love this. People seem to be in a love 'em and leave 'em frame of mind and it's refreshing to see someone looking to ways to keep things together. The title is great too. I also love Paul Simon.
Beautiful hub! Thanks for sharing your great advice! Up and up!
This is such a good hub!! I'm definitely going to bookmark it and try out these tips over the next week or so, thank you! Voted up and beautiful!
Very nice! : ) Voted up and interesting. I need to bookmark as a daily reminder. Thanks for sharing it with us.
What an excellent way to celebrate your 50th hub, Sunshine625. I am also a fan of Paul Simon and Simon and Garfunkle before that so I enjoyed a few of the ways to keep your lover that included references to a line or two of a song. Like "hop on the bus" and "slip out the back, Jack." Congratulations on your milestone!
Great hub! Great read! Great writer!
I think 49 should be done several times a day. What a great hub. I love that song. It was great to hear it again.
You are so creative and witty. I like your style.
Happy fiftieth, and here's to 50 more.
Congratulations!
Voted up and all the way across!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an awesome idea for your 50th hub! Like other commenters, I am a big fan of Paul Simon. I love how simple so many of these ideas are but still so important.
Congratulations on HUB #50 Sunshine!!! (what an appropriate name, btw)
Great list with an emphasis on 1, 10, 15 and 49.
Great Hub!!
Sunshine625,Every word is so true! You are one of the most talented women out there.Vote up! And cut them curls off! LOl
Howdy Sunshine - That's quite a list. From a wee bit of experience (like 59 years counting this year...) I can state that there are probably two ways to keep your lover... (1) Pay the rent and (2) Keep your big mouth shut. Those two do not seem to be all that "romantic," but, as the psychiatrists and the like are wont to tell us, "When you remove the feathers there is actually some chicken meat there to either work the bird the way it likes or to cook the thing the way you like."
Gus :-)))
Excellent advice and don't you dare cut those curls---they look great on you! ;-)
Oh hahah I thought this was a new Hub for your 50th, Im such a do-do. THEN I saw the comments from months ago and realized I am stupid :P These are all great ways to stay close with your significant other :)
Some excellent ways for improving my relationship. I'll try some of these out. Voting this Up and Useful.
Great inspiration for a hub and a wonderful nod to Paul Simon (one of my favorites)!
This is an awesome list and so many of us forget to do these things and become complacent. I think I have finally discovered a great way to keep my lover. I stopped that flowery massengil crap that men secretly hate. I have started using steak and potato wash. Guys love that. Yeah baby!!
linda, this is a great list. I agree with all of it, but, I'm curious... why isn't sex on the list (or does this go with 36???)
What a cute, funny, and totally useful (and true) hub! Rated up, awesome, funny, and useful. Good job.
Awesome ideas and awesome hub. Loved it!
Oh, how I love my 'musical sister...'! I laughed like a hyena as I read your first sentences... as I had just commented in lyric format on FB for you to 'make a new plan, Stan!'
Wise suggestions from a wise woman! Voted UP & Awesome.
Love, Maria
Nice hub. Can't say I agree with all of your ideas, but I do wholeheartedly agree with
'Hold the door open. Pull out the chair. Yes, common courtesy still exists.'
I'm yet to have a proper girlfriend, but I always get smiles from girls when I open doors and offer them my coat!
