Hey JD! You first caught my attention as Officer Tom Hanson from 21 Jump Street and it was smooth sailing through Pirates Of The Caribbean! I've been impressed ever since with your amazing acting abilities. I salute the versatile artist you have become over the past 25 years. You must be thankful that your first (and only) wife Lori introduced you to Nicholas Cage back in the 80's. Nicholas suggested you might want to consider acting and I am grateful he did! Did you ever wonder where your life would have been if not for that chance encounter? You were and still are quite a musician and can really strum those guitar strings...you could have been a rock star! Hold up...you ARE a ROCK STAR! Do you regret dropping out of high school to start a band? How about when you tried to reenter two weeks later and your principal told you to follow your dreams? Your principal saw the potential you had and he gave you a gift OR he just wanted to be rid of you...either way I am thankful for your high school principal!
You are older than me by nineteen days! That tad bit of news is most likely irrelevant to you but cool to me! I always said June babies are the best and I still stand by my word! Born on a warm summer day in Owensboro, Kentucky and now you are the highest paid Hollywood actor! Who woulda ever thought? Most likely your principal and Nicholas Cage!
As Edward Scissorhands you left me in awe. I couldn't imagine daily life with hands as scissors yet you did so with such ease, eventually. Your role of Gilbert in What's Eating Gilbert Grape made everyone want a big brother like you! Gilbert had his hands full with the Grape family but he never let them down. I bet you are that same type of brother in real life with your siblings. In Charlie and The Chocolate Factory you played a candid candy maker. I had a cavity just from watching the movie but the treats in the factory looked yummy-licious! The ending was awesome and just what I had hoped for! I was anticipating the release of Rango and I was pleasantly entertained from start to finish! Only Johnny Depp could give an animated lizard some sex appeal! You were amazing!
Come on, how many actors could rock a passionate, provocative pirate except you! In addition most of the time your character was drunk as a skunk! You made it work. I commend you on your utter brilliance. It's no wonder that you were twice named sexiest man alive by People magazine! By the way...I truly think there should NOT be another Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, ever. The first and second flicks were outstanding, three was pushing it, with four it was time to walk the plank...there are some movies that should be left alone without making them sequels. You didn't even want to make number 4 BUT when you were offered a paycheck of $75 million, HOW could you say NO! Your nest egg should last you for a few lifetimes...just say no.
I think you should focus on bringing Tonto to the big screen. Tonto and the Lone Ranger will be appreciated by an entire new generation. Sure the budget is tight but you could spare some change, can't you? Another reason for shelving it was because Cowboys and Aliens wasn't a success?! Totally different concept. Which by the way I enjoyed the uniqueness of Cowboys and Aliens! We need a Tonto and Lone Ranger movie, just imagine the merchandising sales from that flick! I can picture mini Lone Rangers and Tontos in McDonalds Happy Meal boxes! Just something for you to consider.
I'm looking forward to The Rum Diary movie coming out soon. Everyone who knows Johnny surely knows you are a Hunter Thompson fan and you will flourish in this flick as you always do! This will be the first film released from your own production company Infinitum Nihil, that must be exciting! I am curious as to how the name of your company came about, would you like to share?
Congrats on your long-standing relationship of 12 years with your girlfriend Vanessa Paradis! Living in France away from the Hollywood paparazzi sounds like it's working for you both! Your children must appreciate the privacy also. Lily-Rose Melody (1999) and John Christopher "Jack" Depp III (2002) are lucky kids! Who could blame you for residing in Paris since the French are your roots? It must be cool knowing your family name Depp began in America via a French Huguenot immigrant. You also helped save some lives by donating $2M to the hospital that helped save your daughters life when she was sick with an E. coli infection.The hospital must have really appreciated your token of kindness. Word on the street is you don't want to marry again. Hey, whatever works for you both is fine with me! Not that you need your fans permission, just thought I would share mine regardless.
Way back when you were supposedly quoted as saying that "America is something like a dump puppy with big teeth" I believed your remark was taken out of context. That's how the media works, they need to earn an income too. They won't get $75M for it though! Pssst....I wasn't really a fan of The Tourist, it might have been because Angelina Jolie was starring in it...if you could not co-star with her again I'd greatly appreciate it! You ROCKED your ROLE though!!
Whether you are sipping your French wines that you adore, playing your guitar, adding a 14th tattoo to your body art, sunning on your island in the Bahamas, chilling at your LA home, or relaxing in one of your three residences in France...I hope you can always enjoy the benefits of your hard labor. Keep on doing whatever you are doing because obviously it's working in your favor! Actor, director, musician, producer, father, brother...etc...you have a gift of many talents and you continue to flourish with each journey. Your hardwork and dedication shines through and I appreciate you! You're stuck with Sunshine as a fan! Here's to another 25 years matey!

Johnny Depp is pretty awesome. I love him in all the Tim Burton movies. I also rather enjoyed his performance in the original (and only in my opinion) Nightmare on Elm Street. Voted up, awesome, and of course... beautiful!
Very nicely done Sunshine625...Johnny Depp is a great talent and seems to get more popular every year. I am looking forward to Rum Diary myself.....here is a quick tidbit about Johnny Depp and Hunter S. Thompson....after Depp played Thompson in the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...the two became friends.
Fast forward the tape to a couple of years ago. One day Depp got home and found an message on his machine...it was from Hunter...and it started to ramble on and on(like this comment)so Depp without listening to the whole message hit save and went to the next message...a couple days later he heard Hunter S. Thompson killed himself...he went back to machine and wanting to hear the message but the message was gone...Depp says he thinks daily about that message and how it ended...but he will never know....sorry I went off on a tangent....your hub is a great tribute ...voted up and awesome.

I don't watch the movies of a lot of current actors, but I've seen quite of few of Mr. Depp's movies. My favourite is Chocolat.

Wow!! I learned alot about Johnny through your hub. : ) He is one of my favorite leading men. Of course I really started to notice him in the movie 'Chocolat' He mixed well with chocolate...yummy, huh? lol! Some of his bad boy images, I didn't like as well, expecially the scary parts. WOW! Johnny is a big HUNK of eyecandy. I watched all his pirate movies just to see him. His charm is quiet, but effective, and I am happy he is now a daddy, and that it is very important to him.---This makes me like him more, if that is possible.

An enjoyable read on JD, one of the most versatile stars! He is one of the fewest stars who is very capable of carrying off the bohemian look with elan and did eccentric roles with panache! I watched his first 3 Pirates of the Caribbean films and some films in which he had collaborated with Tim Burton and from those films, I realised he got his unique charm and talent. I wanted to see Dark Shadows soon.

I am a great fan of him, mainly because his sheer brilliance in the Cap'n character and his skills as a musician. You should watch his musical tour with Eddie Vedder. Two great musicians were together there.
Moreover, I would love to see 100 POTC movies, JUST because I will be given another opportunity to watch his majesty's brilliant performance once again.
