Amy Winehouse Dead - Club 27 Now Has 16 Members

63

By Sunshine625

Another sad day in rock and roll music history. Grammy award winner Amy Winehouse passed away at age 27 on July 23, 2011. I am not shocked at her untimely death. I am saddened and disappointed.

I was rooting for her to beat the statistics and prove many critics incorrect. I have a tendency to root for the underdog. I wish rehab had worked.

Age 27 seems to be the curse for rockers. Amy is now number sixteen. Addiction is painful not only for the addict, but for their loved ones. These rebellious rockers are gone but they left behind their legacy for future generations to enjoy.

Between 1969-1971 the world lost four talented rockers. This is how Club 27 began. The curse continued when eleven more rockers died. Either by drug addictions, accidents or health issues. Age 27 was their final year. Unlucky 27. I find this phenomenon extremely eerie.

Thank you Britian for discovering Amy Winehouse and sharing her with the rest of the world.

How sad! :( I really liked some of her songs. That is crazy that all these rockers died at the same age. Too bad that Amy Winehouse joined the club.

It it depressing to see these talented people digging bigger holes for themselves, until that sad final one. I know a few acquaintances who suffered the same fate. One fellow said he wanted to live fast and die young and went at 34. He just sat down in a pub against the wall and died. I suppose sometimes it doesn't pay to be too successful. (not my mate in the pub) but the Amy Winehouses' of this world. Cheers

We can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. Sad but it's reality for some. These lost souls are hopefully finally at peace.

Thanks for stopping by.

If I was famous and 26, I'd be worried. However, I'm way past that and so not famous, that I feel safe.

This does make you wonder what great things we missed due to these early deaths. Great post!

That was immediately what I thought yesterday when I learned Amy Winehouse was 27 - another rock star dead at 27! Apparently Kurt Cobain used to talk about joining the club before he killed himself. It is all so sad and such a shame!

mrpooper....very true we'll never know what could have been. Elvis wasn't 27 but I often wonder what his life would have been like.

jeannie....possibly Kurt knew something the rest of us didn't. What I learned from creating this hub is that Kurt and Kristen Pfaff (Hole band member) BUT died at AGE 27 in 1994 due to drugs. What are the chances? That was a very bad year for Courtney Love and their families. Wow.

I wonder how time will remember her....will she be listed with the greats....Joplin/Hendricks.....or be one of the rest of the list. I underestimated Kurt Cobain's popularity....not sure just how popular she was....I only heard a song by her after her death...but then again I am old and out of touch....lol. Tragic list and tragic that yet another 27 year old joins the list. So sad. Voted up and useful.

Independence is responsibility...rebellion as a substitute for reality?

Heaven loves those who need and never ask....

My Love to Amy.;))

When I heard of Amy's death, I too, though of those in music who died similarly. She had such a destructive personality, her death was inevitable and predictable. Very sad.

Very sad indeed. Her parents spoke to her fans today at a makeshift memorial...they are obviously heartbroken but I commend them for being Amy's voice to her fans. Thanks for stopping by 2besure.

i commend you for making sure to acknowledge pigpen! most lists of the 27 club leave him out. what most don't know is if it weren't for him there may have never been the grateful dead. much respect

My thoughts exactly big poppa! Pigpen was a major part of Grateful Dead and deserves the acknowledgement...unfortunately its for being part of a sad club. Thank you for reminding us all of how important pigpen was.

Excellent hub on the 27 phenomenon, though I wish Amy Winehouse wasn't part of it. There are a few here that I had forgotten about or was surprised by. I remember being destroyed by Kurt Cobain's death as a teenage girl... I think that was my first encounter with the "club". One up and interesting. :)
