Chaz Bono On Dancing With The Stars

Chaz Bono is one of the celebrities who will be entertaining us on Dancing With The Stars, when the new season begins on Sept 19, 2011. For those of you who aren't familiar with Chaz...he was born 42 years ago to the talented duo Sonny and Cher. The happy parents brought home a bouncing baby girl who they named Chastity. Chastity is now Chaz. Cher claims to have accepted her childs decision, like most mothers would. Unfortunately, Sonny was killed in a freak skiing accident in 1998. He literally skied into a tree. Ouch!
No sooner was the announcement made that the haters came out of the closet to boycott Chaz. He is who is he. Accept it or look the other way. DWTS needs a controversial celebrity each season to attract more viewers, increase their ratings and line their pockets. They begged and pleaded with Portia De Rossi to perform for a same-sex twist, she refused. For those of you who aren't familiar with Portia she's Ellen DeGeneres wife. DWTS wanted something unique to cause a stir and capture the media's attention, again. They began with a gay celebrity, they weren't going to stop until they got what they wanted. They have Carson Kressley who is fun! They also have Chaz Bono who is a transgender. Yes, most likely Chaz will overshadow Nancy Grace. Then again I don't see Nancy making it past week two, or maybe she will go further with her huge fan base. Who knows maybe Chaz won't make it that far either. The least the fans of the show could do is show him some support. His decision to make this transition couldn't have been easy. In fact I'm sure it was a painful, difficult decision but he's happy. That's what matters.
Point being, why can't we give him a chance? Some of the boycotters are claiming that having a transgender on the show is a bad influence for children!?! Chaz will have children questioning their own sexuality!They can't be serious! First of all children shouldn't even be watching DWTS. The dancers are on occasion simulating sex on stage, not that I'm complaining! I bet those same kids watched Dirty Dancing a few times or MTV videos MANY times. Second of all the kids wouldn't even think or CARE if Chaz is a man or woman or whatever, it's the parents that create the hate and bigotry in their children. Children aren't born bigots they learn by example. Haters can carry on from generation to generation. If adults would assert more acceptance and less judgment our society would have less controversy. Regardless, don't use kids as an excuse for your insecurities! Whoever has issues with gays or transgenders can do something very simple....LOOK AWAY. They are who they are, accept it or hush up. Do not judge them. No, I'm not gay and no I'm not a transgender BUT I do believe we all have the right to live the way we choose. NO, gays are NOT contagious! You can't catch gay and NO you can't pray away the gay. Do I think it's easy for them. NO, I don't so why make it more difficult. No one is perfect! Not even straight, "normal" people if they even exist!
In the meanwhile DWTS is enjoying their moment in the spotlight AGAIN with the controversy. Last year they did it with Bristol Palin, this year it's Chaz. I can't help but wonder what they already have lined up for next season! All I ask is that we cut him some slack. Give him a chance and don't allow DWTS to increase their ratings and their profit margin by tearing down Chaz. Please don't quote the bible....I don't want to hear it. This isn't about religion or sinners...this is about a human being. If Chaz is a dancing success I'd love to see him take home the mirror ball. If he's not light on his feet and doesn't win he's still a winner with me for taking on the challenge and standing his ground. If this article does anything at all I hope it proves that we can stop the judgement and learn to accept or just look away. May the best dancer win!

Sunshine! Very interesting--which is certainly the norm for you. I don't have anything against Chaz Bono. It's just that I watched "The Sonny and Cher Show" too long. I know he has changed and it is his right to do so, but for me, I will always remember that cute little girl who ended the show while being held by Sonny. She stole the show, but I do realize she is gone forever. At least, as Chastity Bono.

Possibly if DWTS actually signed on some "real" celebrities they wouldn't have to always cause a conflict with who they do select. But it's those stars that bring the money in.

It will be interesting to see how well he/she performs. I don't care who wants to be gay but I don't get the necessity to go to such extremes to be happy.
Being on Dancing makes you an instant celeb for sure. I hope Chaz does well. I doubt we will see Cher in the audience.

If it is happy with it life but I do not need to know take this into consideration it is his choice but the world does not need to know about his private life. It like all the stars today their air there dirty laundry in public view not like the old days their were more mystic about there lives.

Interesting hub.....not much of a fan of Dancing With The Stars....but it is hard to avoid each year's new stars...I would say this collection of stars is pretty weak...and it has nothing to do with Chaz Bono's sexual preference. I hope Chaz wins the whole contest...although it always seems to favor the most athletic celebrities....and Chaz does not fit that mode. Great hub with lots of great information...voted up and useful.

Your hub made me think back to when my Mum and I learned ballroom dancing together as partners. We both had to know the mens' steps as well as the ladies' steps. Still to this day I remember all the mens' steps!

Hi, we get the program in England, but its called something else, can't remember! lol not my type of thing, as for Chas, well good for him, did you know that the majority of the Animal kingdom have transgender in it? it is a normal condition in a sense, too much female hormone in the baby if it is a boy that turns into a girl, and vice versa, great hub! cheers nell
I support Chaz! DWTS seems like a fun opportunity for him. People shouldn't judge or criticize others.. no one is better than any other! I watched the video.. Chaz was a cute little girl! I'm glad he can be comfortable in his own skin now.

I'm surprised that so many think others should not 'judge' (read: have an opinion different from theirs), or not watch something they find personally disturbing, or which violates their religious beliefs.
There are many who do not support the homosexual agendas, like homosexual marriage, or gender change, and don't support something like this either, so they are calling DWTS to protest it. Isn't that still an American right? And since when did having an opinion become 'hateful'?
As we speak, the latest to receive 'victim' status among the left is the poor, misunderstood, pedophile.
So tell me, if you discover your child has been molested, should you refrain from anger lest you be labeled 'judgmental"?

Pedophilia is definitely different, as it is a crime. Someone's sexual orientation, while some may have an issue with it, is not even in the same category.

It bothers me that the well in the US has become so poisoned that any dissent on this topic is 'hatred' and 'bigotry'. I'm getting tired of the knee-jerk labels before anyone even says a word.
I am personally opposed to the legitimizing of what I view as a sexual perversion. That's not bigotry or hatred. It's simply a point of view based on moral standards we all had just a few years ago.

Watching the show....I had to come back. I have been thinking, those that don't 'agree' with Chaz, did you notice CARSON KRESSLEY? He and his partner brought that audience to their FEET!!
I remembered a few other comments as well. "WANTS to be gay?" why would someone 'want' the ridicule and rejection? It's genetics, would you rejection the child w/genetics of diabetes?

I have never watched DWTS before last night.....and I watched for several reasons.....Chaz, Nancy, Carson...I love Carson Kresley. He is soooo funny. I'm rooting for all of them. I'm one of these people who can't stand to see anyone get voted off!! They all train so hard and put their ALL into it. Can't we give them each an award of some kind??? LOL....
Hi Barbara and Paula! It was a great show all around! Lots of surprises with who's got more swagger. Carson was a hoot! Nancy had moves which shocked me! Chynna Phillips and David Arquette were impressive! Ron Artest needs to go home today. He can play basketball but a dancer he's not. I'm glad you are now a fan Paula! :)
This was only the 2nd show I'd watched, it's ALL Sunshine fault too! I watched for Chaz and Nancy, I'd forgotten about Carson. Carson did show his same ol' flair! He's adorable!!

But, I've been reading blogs, news, conversations and public opinion.
"flaunting" his private life: I call it educating the public, just as Ellen did. She created a "safe" forums for others to feel safe, safe enough to release their burden of secrecy. Education has changed the world about many things....this being one.
WHY do most people only about the S-E-X of these people? They have a pretty normal everyday life as the rest of us. There's more to them than sex.

This is the fourth time I am starting to write a comment. I write something and then back up, write something.... I am going to just say ... something safe ... Sunshine, this was a well written hub. I enjoyed reading it and the comments. The comments have taken on a life of their own. I have had a hub written for sometime now that I wasn't sure I wanted to publish. I'm still not sure. Time will tell.

Very interesting about Chaz. I don't really watch DWTS except during random commercial breaks and stuff. I agree with your comments on the people who are anti-LGBT as well. Most kids shouldn't be watching that in the first place and even if they did, you can't catch transgender desires from anyone but yourself. In terms of dancing ability though, I think Chaz should go home. He's tried, but it's just not working. Also, I'd have to agree with your comments on DWTS and controversy, there's only so much further they can go for ratings. Once again, awesome hub Sunshine!
I loved Chastity and I love Chas. Watching him I feel his pain and everyone has their right to their opinion and hate is a two way street. If you don't believe Gay is right that is your right and it does not have to mean hate to disagree, and shouldn't.

Nice hub, Sunshine. Voted up and awesome. I love the video. When Chaz came out about his transition, I went to youtube to watch some clips of the show with little Chastity. Loved that show! I agree with you about DWTS. It shouldn't matter WHO they put on the show. It's supposed to be about dancing. If Chaz can't dance, then he should be voted off, but it should only be about the dancing. I don't like all the hate....Enjoyed your hub!
