Fact of Life: Time Flies!

No doubt about it, time flies. How many times have we said it's been a week since so and so? A year since such and such? Or wow, didn't I just celebrate my birthday a month ago? How about when retail stores begin their holiday displays in September, seriously that's crazy BUT the holidays will quickly arrive. But yet, while waiting for a pot of water to boil it takes forever!

Where does the time go? Will it ever slow down? We arise from our slumber and before we realize it we are ready for sleep again. Have we accomplished all that needs to be done in that day? I often find myself saying that I wish there were more hours in a day. I bet many of you have also wished for that. By now we have realized that's not gonna happen.

When we were young time didn't fly as quickly. Our days were more leisurely hanging out with our friends and we had no worries. As we began to age we noticed that time does go by faster. There are many days I just need to stop and tell myself, "be here now". How many of us are always planning ahead? Maybe that could be part of the problem. If we are constantly planning ahead to the next day or next week etc. we neglect today. It's the moments we are in that should truly matter.

I've spoken with many friends who have complained about time flying by and how they wish they could turn back time. Would we really want to go back and do it all over again? I for one wouldn't, anything I missed out in this life I'll tackle in the next...etc...etc...etc. The Grand Ole Opry will certainly still be around in my next life. At least I hope so.

I'm a firm believer in the adage that "time flies when you're having fun"! Consider the many times when we were having the time of our life's and then it's over. We are sad that it came to an abrupt end, but will always cherish the memories. Maybe if we force ourselves to be bored time will go slower BUT who has time to be bored! Being bored is not fun but yet it works. Whenever you're at an event that you'd rather not be at, doesn't time just drag? No matter how many times we try not to look at a clock we always seem to do it anyway. Most times only a minute has passed by and we're thinking what the #$%&! It's torture I say!

Do you remember about what age time began to start flying for you? For me it was in my twenties. Now that I'm in my forties it's at a lightning pace. It seems that if I blink the day is over and the next day is about to begin. So I try not to blink, but being human that's not an easy task.

Time is something we will never get back. It just keeps on moving and we have to keep up with it. We are controlled by time. It would be nice if we could control it but reality tells us otherwise. When we learn to use our time constructively and we aren't just killing time, life can go more smoothly. Whether it's a second, minute, an hour or a day time is free of charge and there are NO refunds.

Time is of the essence. Maybe we should take the time to smell the roses! If roses aren't your thing, then smell something else just take the time. It would be nice if time stood still if only for a little while, but it's not gonna happen. If you know a secret or creative way to use time more effectively please share with the rest of us. Possibly it could be patented and bottled and you could become a billionaire! It's a fact of life that time flies, so enjoy each moment because you will not get it back. In good times and bad times, time is by your side so you might as well be friends. Until next time, I gotta fly!
