How To Select Teams For A Football Fantasy Game
66
I've been participating in a football "you pick 'em" fantasy league for a few years now. I'm not a football fanatic. I attempt to pick the teams who I think have a good chance of winning. For some strange reason my strategies don't always work in my favor. Hmmmm.
I tend to root for the underdog and it's a euphoric feeling when they actually win! It's entertaining being part of the group and also a challenge. The fantasy players cease to amaze me each week with who will be in the lead. We all have our personal method of trying to pick the winning team of the week. You could use stats, injuries, which player is in for the week or who's out, pick distribution or luck of the draw. Sunshine does things her way. There is no set method. She's just a random kind of girl who wants to win. I think.
Sunshine's Strategies To Select The Winning Weekly Team:
1. Which team comes first in the alphabet...A's, B's, C's they are my top choice.
2. Pick the home or away team across the board.
3. Flip a coin ... heads one team, tails for the other.
4. Are the team mascots a bird? An animal? Which one is your favorite? Pick 'em!
5. Pick your favorite color from the teams uniforms.
6. Do you root for the underdog? Pick 'em!
7. Select your least favorite team of the two.
8. Choose which city or state you have visited or would like to visit.
9. Which team has cheerleaders...pick 'em!
10. Which team has the cutest quarterback...(have fun ladies)!
11. Select by which team has the most vowels in its name.
12. Make a list of the team names....throw darts at the paper and allow the darts to choose!
13. Read off the names to your kids or grandkids and have them pick!
14. You could also try #13 with your dog...whichever one he/she barks at is your choice for the week.
15. Northern or southern state? Eastern or western? Whichever direction you are in the mood for...Pick 'em!
16. Which team will have the most fumbles? Whichever team has the letter F in it...DON'T pick 'em!
17. Which team has the "state of the art stadium"...Don't pick 'em, they are spoiled!
18. Pick the name with the letter T or D because chances are they will have more touchdowns!
19. Set up a weekly text message reminder for other players to remind them to make their picks, don't send the text and hope they forget...that should get you in the lead!!
20. Finally, just give it your best shot...pick randomly...you have a 50/50 chance of winning either way.
Sunshine's ideas are now public knowledge. I hope they help someone else TRY to be number one for the week! The above ideas are just suggestions and are not guaranteed to have you win a football fantasy "you pick 'em" league! For the record, I did come in second one year and lost by only one game!
To my teammates...my hubby, son-in-laws and fantastic, fanatical football friends....may the best picker win! Feel free to use Sunshine's way of picking, if you are daring enough...you can thank me later. Are you ready for some football!?!?!

Fun hub. I am super competitive, so I employ different strategies than you to make my picks each week, but I do like the "which team has the cutest quarterback" method for those games that otherwise are toss-ups. : )
Jimmy The Greek would be jealous Linda...I promise your method is as reliable as anyone else:-))
Great and useful hub ! I now know your secrets and will try some especially the cheerleaders when I am undecided. Look out league, Sunshine is on the way !
Sunshine....Truthfully? For as much as I know about football, I could take all the team names, toss them around in a box and pick them out....like lotto balls. I'd probably have as much luck as I do with Lottery tickets too. N O N E. But I love your SPIRIT!
Great ideas but I don't think my sons would agree! You'd make a great football player. Just run for the...well, whichever direction you decide on at the moment. North, South, East, West, possibly toward the cheerleaders. lol
Now I understand, Sunshine, why I have had no luck picking the winners in football games. I've been going at it all wrong - with statistics and research and careful analysis. Now I'm going to try the "cutest quarterback" method. Thanks for sharing this entertaining approach.
Definitely some interesting strategies :-p but I think I'll stick to my *secret* ways. Hope it continues to work for you this season though :)
I know nothing about American football, but i have tried the fantasy soccer league competitions. They are good fun but your approach sounds very scientific and more likely to produce a positive outcome. Good work.
What a fun hub, Sunshine! Great idea. Love your strategies for selecting a team.
Hi Sunshine, what a great fun hub, I like your ideas!
My hubby and I always pick players and teams for NFL fantasy football and it gets quite competitive between us.
I am going to keep your tips to myself, I think they are going to give me a huge advantage!!
I am surprised you are not doing better in your league...as all your ideas seem guaranteed to pick some winners....maybe not many winners but some winners....you did however get the Bills over the Patriots last weekend...which proves one of your systems works...very funny hub....very entertaining...voted up and interesting.
Very interesting method. Well worth the try. My whole team is Green Bay, mostly, and so far I am 3-0. Good tips!
Enjoyed the laughs from this one, Sunshine 625. Good luck with your picks! Voted up and funny.
Hey Sunshine,
Gosh, you sure know how to make me laugh. Fun hub! Loved the "pickin' winners" - HA. I haven't been around for a while, trying to get back. Hope all is well with you,
Sharyn
Sunshine - too too funny! LOL Now the first year I played - I chose the players because they had a nice smile - or a cute tush:) Or if I loved the sound of their name! Ha!
Now - we choose players from different teams - say you get 2 QB's, 2 Kickers, 8 RB's, like that....some guys were really mad when i came out in 1st place after week one. They were like "we study that stuff - that isn't fair! lol
Thanks for sharing - I really love this! Now I actually know how the game is played - I won the survivor league last year! hahaha!
I like this. This was fun!
We always do playoff teams for the four weeks of playoffs! It is super fun so i am tweeting for those who want to hurry and form teams!
Sunny, I like your way of picking - I am a bit like that with my fantasy baseball team, I always pick David Wright first from the Mets just cos he is so gorgeous, doesn't matter if he's hitting below 200 and on the DL!
I know nothing about American Football now but I used to watch it in the 80s on UK TV so I would pick from my favourite two teams, the Redskins and the 49ers.
Great hub, fun to read, nice to see you had a guest commenter!
